Growing Up Gold

Our community is a college town.  Not that many people really think about it being a college town, but we have six colleges.  Wofford is among them and is reaching out to local school children (public, private, and home school) through the Growing Up Gold Initiative.

Watching pregame warm-ups.

The athletic department hosted the Education Day event during a noon women's basketball game.  The Wofford Terriers took on the College of Charleston Cougars.  The children were excited as they watched the ladies warm up.

Wofford gave each child in attendance a program with educational activities, pencil, poster, coupon booklet, and pompom.  The pompoms were a hit with all the children.  Several schools from the area attended and all were well behaved.

Having fun with the pompom.

The basketball game was a good back and forth event.  Up by two and then answered by two, up by four and answered by three, etc.  Little Man had fun keeping me updated on the score.

During timeouts, selected children in attendance were asked to play a game.  The word scramble, free throw challenge, dress and shoot, all round athlete competition, Where's Boss the Terrier, etc. provided entertainment.

The game came down to the final four seconds.

The game was decided on a free throw.

 It's good!

Wofford wins and the kids went wild.

Thank you Wofford for a fun filled day!
