Snowman Painting

We ventured back to Paint It Up!  This time we had a large group of homeschoolers.  The children were so excited to paint their snowman.  It is always fun to paint with friends and Ashlee does a wonderful job with the children.

It was funny, how the boys and girls went to separate tables.  Boys tend to paint differently than girls.  They want to be given little instruction and the big picture.  They will take it from there and create their masterpiece.  Girls like the instruction and step by step guidance.  They like color and to get it 'just right'.  It is so much fun, just watching the difference in the two!

In the end, they had their very own snowman.  Each was just as different as the child that painted it!

Painting Part 5

Almost done!  The kitchen cabinets and back splash are now painted.  I decided to paint the bottom cabinets brown to cut down on the smudges from little hands.  I was going to leave the upper cabinets the way they were.  However, after looking at this configuration for a couple of weeks, I decided to paint the upper cabinets.  I toiled with the color scheme.  Should I paint them brown to match the bottom?  Or should I paint them spiced vinegar to match the walls?  Should I paint the back splash brown or spiced vinegar?

I didn't want the kitchen to be too dark, so I decided to go with the spiced vinegar.  As I painted, I was glad I went light.

I had to remove the old back splash and spackle the wall.  Then I had to decide what to do with the back splash behind the stove.  Luckily, I had saved the old back splash.  I gave it a fresh coat of paint and it brought the brown from the bottom cabinets upward.

Overall, I am pleased with the kitchen.  Now, I just have to decide what to do with my large pantries.  Should I paint them to match the cabinets or leave them natural to match the butcher block island?

Painting Part 4

Well, the hall bath is finished!  I think it turned out great and the kids are ready to take it over.

I had originally planned to paint all the walls a bright sunny yellow, but then started to ponder if that was such a good idea.  Little Man is still young and has a horrible tendency to run his hands over the walls.  Light colors + little boy = dirty walls!  So I decided to remedy the problem like I did in the hallway.  Brown on the bottom portion of the walls and yellow on the top.

Here are the pics from start to finish.

Painting Part 3

The living room is officially finished with painting!  Hubby moved the t.v. entertainment center for me and I finished painting the area behind it.

You can see the white walls with my color samples behind the t.v.

The white border really lightens the room and makes the ceilings look higher.

The corner is finished!

After I finished painting, I got the fall and Halloween decorations out of the attic.  The weather is starting to really turn cooler and I am in the mood for the holidays.

Now to finish the hall bath and the master bedroom!

Painting Part 2

Okay, I will admit that I haven't been keeping up with my painting schedule.  Life has gotten in the way.  Between homeschooling, running errands, housework and just needing to take a break, painting has moved to the back burner.  Then I looked at the calendar.  It is the last week of September and I have got to kick into high gear!

The kids and I went to the flooring store to on Monday to finalize the order.  Now I am waiting to hear back on the date for installation.  I can't wait!

Monday, I painted the wall behind my display cabinet.

Wall paper border almost completely down.  The walls use to be a maroon color at one time!

Wall painted and display cabinet back in place.

Tuesday, I painted the wall in between the living room and dining area.

Wall paper border coming off, hutch emptied and ready to move!
Wall turned out great!  Decided to paint the spiced vinegar color instead of the stony fields.

Today, I worked on painting the mantle.

I had painted three color choices and then decided to go with off white.

Looks totally different!

Tomorrow, I will finish the last corner in the living room if all goes as planned.  Then off to finish the hall bath and start on the master bedroom!

Painting - Part One

My sister came over yesterday to help paint.  I had removed all the wall paper border from the hallway and it became the starting point for the remodel.

Border down!  Now I just had to remove the pictures, so we could start painting.
My sister loves to paint.  She was so excited to get to help.  I was excited to have someone help.

I had my paint colors picked out and decided to paint the walls half dark and half light.  I figured having a young boy in the house that loved to run his hands down the wall, it would be smart to have a dark color on the bottom half of the wall.  Hubby was not to keen on my idea.  So, I painted a test strip to show him.

The test strip.  I made sure it was as level as possible using my four foot level.

Spiced Vinegar on top, stoney fields on bottom

Close up!
He still wasn't sold on the idea.  I told him we could put up a chair rail to separate the colors.  However, I was hoping once I had pictures back on the walls everything would fall in place.

We began painting and the walls were a breeze!  The paint rolled on great.  I cut in the top as my sister rolled the walls.  We were done by lunch and planned on doing the trim after.

The trim was a chore!  We taped and painted.  Hunter green was a pain to cover.  We worked on the trim for four hours!  I believe we applied three coats of off white enamel.  Then my sister had to leave.  I worked for another hour before calling it quits for the day.

Working on the trim.  See the blue painters tape.
I put a fourth coat of paint on the trim this afternoon. I then touched up the wall paint.  It was so satisfying to have the hall finished.

Hubby mentioned that the chair rail would look good.  I told him to wait and see what he thought after I put the pictures on the wall.  So, I decided to go ahead and put the pictures up tonight.

The finished product!

After I had the pictures were hung, he agreed, no need for a chair rail.  Now to finish it off, I just have to wait for my new floors!
