Holmes Educational Forest

Our nature hike group went to Holmes Educational Forest outside of Hendersonville, NC.

It is a nice little drive on a curvy mountain road.  We enjoyed the scenery along the way.  The park is located off of Crab Creek Road and is well marked.

We decided to explore the Talking Trees trail and the Crab Creek Trail on this trip.  Each trail is approximately a half mile each.

The Talking Trees trail is nice and has informative 'talking' trees along the path.  You push a button and hear about the trees and area.  The views were nice and the spring wildflowers were just starting to bloom.  The trail has a great discovery center to learn about the forest areas of North Carolina.

Next, we made our way back to the parking area and across to the Crab Creek Trail.  This trail is flat and meanders alongside of Crab Creek.  In the meadow area, there is a forestry helicopter, a plow, and a fire tower.  The kids were disappointed that they couldn't climb up in the tower.

These are nice and easy trails.  It is a perfect hour long informative hike for kids or walking the dog.
